Joe Mazzulla touched by the words of Grant Williams

On the sidelines of the press conference recording the historic extension of Jaylen Brown, Joe Mazzulla held a press briefing during which he spoke about Grant Williams gone to export his talents to Dallas during the offseason.

Arrived the same year in Boston in 2019, one as an assistant and the other as a rookie, the two evolved together for four years and they had thus established a certain closeness. Grant Williams therefore wished him good luck with the feeling of the work accomplished, that of having made him a better player than four years earlier.

“Any time you get a player and you have him for three or four years, I think the number one goal is for him to be better than you found him and I think Grant has made a excellent work in this regard. I am happy that he has an opportunity in Dallas, that he is doing what he knows how to do best, I wish him the best”, did he declare.

Joe Mazzulla also had a word for the statement from Grant Williams who had put their occasional disagreements into perspective, when he sometimes left the rotation in the playoffs in particular. ” I will always love him as a friend. Even if the season didn’t turn out the way we wanted, we still have respect for each other. I will always have compliments for him, he deserves them. He’s a good person and a good coach.”he confided.

Words that did not leave the Celtics coach indifferent. “I appreciated what he said. It’s funny because even though I projected myself into the role of head coach, I made a lot of relationships first as an assistant. And he’s one of the guys I’ve been able to forge a close relationship with over the few years I’ve been here, and a few others. So I’m grateful for the person he is and I look forward to the player he’s going to become.”he added.
