Author of a big sophomore season with the Pelicans, Trey Murphy III was questioned about the next generation who is already pointing the tip of his nose with Chet Holmgren And Victor Wembanyamalegitimate contenders alongside Scoot Henderson and Brandon Miller for 2024 Rookie of the Year.
After following Victor Wembanyama’s first outing against Brandon Miller’s Hornets, Trey Murphy III spoke about the case of the Frenchman, whom he first sees perform in defense during his rookie season.
Offensively, “Wemby” may have to go through a physical adjustment phase.
“I don’t know exactly what he’ll be able to do offensively, because everyone is going to get on top of him. But defensively, he’s going to be very strong.” did he declare. “Defensively, I found him good, and it is this impact that he will first have this year. Most of the time, 5 positions struggle on defense. It’s the hardest part for them when they’re rookies, defending the pick-and-roll, and there I think he’ll do a really good job. But offensively, it will be tough. I don’t know what he will have to expect on the physical level and the improvement of his qualities”.
Chet Holmgren, the pivot that the Thunder lacked
Between Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren, second choice of the 2022 Draft victim of a white season due to a foot injury, Trey Murphy III thus slipped that he would vote more for the interior of OKC if he had to choose the player who was going to be the most successful in his rookie season.
“I would probably take Chet. He has this little thing of toughness in him. We can not say that it is soft. He plays with that tenacity that adults need. Also, he is very talented. He’s a bit better built than Victor, and I feel like he shoots better.”he added. “You also have to look at the team. OKC needed a 5 last year, they needed a circle protector. It’s going to be great for them.”
The confrontations between OKC and San Antonio will therefore be particularly interesting to follow.
