Willy Hernangomez is officially a player of FC Barcelona until June 30, 2026. The Catalan club has just announced the arrival of the former Pelicans player for the next three years. This depended on Real Madrid, holder of the player’s rights, who decided not to align themselves with the offer made by the Catalan club.
At 29, the MVP of the last EuroBasket thus opens a new page in his career. Selected in 35th place in the 2015 Draft by the 76ers, he finally played seven seasons in the Great League spent between the Knicks, the Hornets and the Pelicans. Despite the evolution of his status on the international scene with Spain, however, he never managed to establish himself as a holder in the NBA.
A definitive return to Europe?
Blame it, presumably, on its defensive limits. Because throughout his passage across the Atlantic, he demonstrated his efficiency on the other side of the field with averages of 7 points (53%) and 6 rebounds in 15 minutes of play. If he goes to the end of his contract with Barcelona, he will be 32 years old and therefore unlikely to return to the United States.
Willy Hernangomez, passed by Real and Baloncesto Sevilla before making the big American leap, is now waiting for news of his brother, Juancho, likely to follow him in his Barcelona adventure.
