Saquon Barkley could miss the first week of the season

Negotiations between Saquon Barkley (RB) and the Giants for an extension have “stalled” according to ESPN. Outside, there are only a few days left for the two parties to find common ground. After July 17, any discussion for a long-term contract will be discontinued.

Even more serious, ESPN adds that the presence of the running back during the first week of the 2023 season is seriously questioned. Indeed, the running back still hasn’t signed the $10.1 million franchise tag that the franchise offered him.

Barkley has rushed for 1,312 yards and scored ten touchdowns in 2022. A big architect of the Giants’ surprise season in 2022, extending running back is a priority if the franchise is to be competitive over the long term.

An updated retro jersey for the Buccaneers

The Lions recently announced that they would be donning a blue helmet with a retro logo symbolizing the franchise’s heyday to celebrate the franchise’s history.

The Buccaneers saw things big as they unveiled a new jersey with a retro aesthetic inspired by the “Creamsicle” jersey they wore between 1976 and 1996.

The Tampa Bay franchise announced it via a video on which appear former glories of the Buccaneers and current players. The players will inaugurate this orange, red and white jersey in week six against the Lions.

The official franchise store already offers the jersey for sale.

Tom Coughlin and Mike Shanahan among 2024 Hall of Fame semi-finalists

While Darrelle Revis, Joe Thomas, Ronde Barber, Chuck Howley, Joe Klecko, Ken Riley, Zach Thomas, DeMarcus Ware and Don Coryell will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on August 3 for the class of 2023, we already know the semi-finalists for the next year.

Among 60 names retained by the committee, some hold the attention. There are, for example, coaches with two titles: Tom Coughlin and Mike Shanahan. The former was the coach of the Giants during their victories over the Patriots in 2007 and 2011, while the latter had managed the “back-to-back” with Denver in 1997 and 1998.

On the owners’ side, Robert Kraft (New England Patriots) and Virginia McCaskey (Chicago Bears) are also among these semi-finalists. Please note, these players / coaches / owners are still far from entering the Hall of Fame since there are still several rounds of selections before knowing the final selection for the class of 2024 by the end of August.

Dalvin Cook happy to be a free agent

Dalvin Cook (RB, ex-Vikings) is still in the free agent market. What would be an unpleasant situation for most players in his case doesn’t seem to bother him.

“I think that at all levels, I made the right choice. This process is fun, you get used to it. It’s okay to want to be wanted,” he said in an interview with FOX 9.

Dalvin Cook takes his time and studies all the offers, including an offer from the Dolphins that is insufficient in his eyes. The resumption of training camp will undoubtedly bring some answers.

injuries

– Jarrad Davis (LB, Giants) going to stay off the pitch for a while. The 28-year-old has undergone knee surgery. Drafted in the first round of the 2017 draft by the Lions, the linebacker was signed by the Giants at the end of the 2022 season. (New York Post)

In short

– NFL Network upholds suspension of Michael Irvin. The former Cowboys star was suspended in February 2023 after an employee at the hotel where he was staying for the Super Bowl accused him of making inappropriate comments about her. Irvin continues to deny and has filed several lawsuits against the Marriott hotel group. (FrontOfficeSports.com)
