Jeremy Pilon was drafted by the Rays

Last year, the Blue Jays took a chance by drafting Jérémy Pilon. The left-handed pitcher from Valleyfield fell in the eye of Jasmin Roy, the team’s recruiter.

Unfortunately for the Queen City club, the young hopeful did not sign his contract with the club and he chose to become eligible for the 2023 draft again.

And he was chosen again.

This time, it was the Tampa Bay Rays who got their hands on his services. And again, he came out in the 18th round.

After Pier-Olivier Boucher yesterday (Atlanta), Pilon became the second Quebecer to be drafted this year. And since the draft has ended, they are the only ones.

In fact, it’s been a thin harvest for Canadian baseball in general.

Pilon is the 543rd choice of the auction. The 17-year-old will have an important decision to make: will he want to sign with the Rays or not?

After all, if he doesn’t get an offer big enough to make it worthwhile, he could just go play for the University of Alabama, where he has a scholarship waiting for him. .

If he goes to college, he could be drafted to major league baseball again in the future. If he signs, he will go straight to the pros. We’ll see what he’ll do.

To be continued over the next few weeks, therefore.

round 10
  • Luis Robert will not play tonight. He hurt himself yesterday, at the competition.
  • Pete Rose: No plans to bring him back into baseball.
  • Several teams want the 2025 All-Star Game.
