Viewers at Victor Wembanyama’s first Summer League game

Unlike the second, Victor Wembanyama did not have a great first game in the Summer League, against the Hornets. But viewers were still there to see the first pick of the 2023 Draft in action for the first time.

According to Sports MediaWatch1.39 million people were actually in front of ESPN to watch the meeting between San Antonio and Charlotte, with a peak of 1.63 million viewers.

There is only one Summer League game that has been watched the most: Zion Williamson’s first of 2019, against former Duke teammate RJ Barrett. No less than 1.61 million viewers watched this duel.

The audience score recorded by Victor Wembanyama’s debut is obviously huge since last season the most watched summer league game was a Magic – Kings, with the first choice of the 2022 Draft, Paolo Banchero, who had only gathered 433,000 viewers…

To understand even more the “hype” surrounding the Frenchman, we must remember that last season, the Spurs’ only regular season game broadcast on ESPN, ABC or TNT, against the Warriors in January, and in the Alamodome, with the record number of spectators (68,323), attracted “only” 1.36 million people.
