No surprise at New Orleansso far: After extending Herb Jones for four more seasons, the Pelicans have in fact made the choice, expected from a financial point of view, to cut Garrett Temple.
Why an expected choice? Because the veteran guard’s salary for the 2022/23 season, which amounts to 5.4 million dollars, would have been fully guaranteed from Friday. The Pelicans are saving a precious sum in this way, while their finances are tight this summer. As Bobby Marks remindedthe extension of Herb Jones indeed placed the Pelicans on the edge of the “luxury tax”, almost without any room for maneuver.
The New Orleans club therefore offers a little air in its finances for the rest of the offseason, while Garrett Temple, after two seasons in Louisiana, must now find a new base.
