The San Diego Padres made short work of the Los Angeles Angels last night (Monday), winning by a score of 10-3.
This defeat of the Angels, however, is the least of their worries. It’s that star player Mike Trout left the game with a left wrist injury.
The latter hit a foul ball in the top of the eighth inning and immediately jerked his left arm. The Angels manager, Phil Nevin, and a trainer came immediately to check on the outfielder and he then left the game.
Trout had earlier hit a single and RBI in the sixth inning.
The main interested party was still feeling pain after the game and hopes it was just a sprain, but the way things went, we can doubt it.
This will certainly compromise his participation in the All-Star Game, he who had been selected for the eleventh time in his career.
More importantly, this situation could also change the Angels’ plans for the current campaign, as their chances of making the playoffs will likely dwindle. Important decisions will then have to be made.
The butterfly effect could also go so far as to have an impact on Shohei Ohtani’s future with the Angels this season, but also in 2024.
A misfortune that hurts on many levels.
