Four more years in Toronto for Jakob Poeltl

He was a priority for Masai Ujiri and Bobby Webster this offseason, given that they still dropped a first round of the 2024 Draft and two second rounds to bring him back from San Antonio during the season. It is therefore no surprise that ESPN announcement that Jakob Poeltl extended with Raptorssigning a new four-year contract (with a “player option”) and 80 million dollars.

An annual rate of 20 million, therefore. Maybe a little expensive, but it was probably the price to pay to prevent the Rockets and … Spurs, the two main competitors of the Raptors, from attaching his services. Especially since the Austrian pivot is a solid and regular contributor, and rarely injured.

It remains to be seen how the Fred VanVleet file will evolve in Toronto in the coming hours. Maybe Jakob Poeltl’s return is a sign that Raptors management intends to bring everyone back…
