It is tomorrow evening, at 8:45 p.m. on France 3, that we will have a first taste of the list ofFrench team for the World Cup 2023 (August 25 – September 10).
In view of the latest information (absences of Victor Wembanyama and Joel Embiid, presence of Rudy Gobert) and the habits of Vincent Collet in the past, we can already get an idea of what the tricolor squad (12 players) will look like in Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines.
Thus, everything suggests that the French coach will resume a model of list similar to the last two international competitions of the Blues: three leaders, four rear / wingers, two wingers and three pivots.
As things stand, several players therefore seem certain to travel to Asia this summer. Starting with the “ghosts” Nicholas Batum (captain) and Nando de Colo of course, absent during the last Eurobasket, but also Rudy Gobert And Evan Fournierleaders of France during this same European championship.
Then, we assume that Guerschon Yabusele, Andrew Albicy And Terry Tarpey have done what is necessary, both in selection and in club, to impose themselves as evidence in the eyes of Vincent Collet. The same applies to Moustapha Fall And Elie Okoboauthors of a fine season in Europe.
Blur at the lead and inside
This is when things should get complicated for the coach. In particular at the end where, without Thomas Heurtel, several of them are seeking a place in the workforce: Sylvain Francisco, Killian Hayes and Frank Ntilikina, or even Rodrigue Beaubois, Théo Maledon or Fabien Causeur.
Inside, Vincent Collet will also be faced with a real headache, since he will probably have to choose between Vincent Poirier, Mathias Lessort and Mam Jaiteh, in order to support the Rudy Gobert / Moustapha Fall doublet.
Finally, what about the second place as a strong winger where, behind Guerschon Yabusele and without Victor Wembanyama, Amath M’Baye has certainly just closed the doors of the selection by being announced on the side of CSKA Moscow? The options are thus limited and this could benefit Damien Inglis, Yoan Makoundou or Petr Cornelie. Unless Mathias Lessort is used as post 4, with Vincent Poirier called as third post 5…
As a reminder, at the World Cup, France will be in Pool H in Jakarta (Indonesia) with Canada, Latvia and Lebanon. If she finishes in one of the first two places, she will then cross with the group of Spain and Brazil in the second round, to hope to reach the 1/4 finals.
