At only 20 years old, Eury Pérez impresses

It is increasingly common to see young players having an immediate impact when they arrive with a team.

This is the case of Eury Pérez. At just 20 years old, the Miami Marlins starting pitcher is making his way into the Florida rotation.

Pérez is almost untouchable in his last six starts. Hold on tight! In 33 innings, he gave up just 20 hits, collected 38 strikeouts and posted a slim 0.27 ERA. Ah yes, I remind you that he is only 20 years old…

The Marlins were considering giving Pérez a break to bring him back after the All-Star Game. However, with numbers like these, they will have no choice but to keep sending him to the mound.

We quickly understand how he can have such statistics when we watch him throw. His fastball has an average velocity of 98MPH, but he often hits the three digits.

What makes it really special is the quality of its effect balls. The spin on his slip ball, curve ball as well as his shifting is very tight. This allows him to better control his offerings and at the same time hit the corners of the strike zone quite regularly.

I let you judge for yourself:

Could the Marlins be seen again in the playoffs?

Miami is having a solid first half of the season. He’s second in the NL East behind the mighty Braves, who look set to claim a sixth straight division title.

However, with their 45-34 record, the Marlins are currently in a position to make the playoffs as the first team drafted.

Their last series appearance was in 2020, when they were swept in the Division Series by those same Braves. Note that the playoff tournament hosted more teams that year, due to COVID-19.

2003 was the last true season Or The Fish participated in the playoffs. The Marlins had also won the World Series against the New York Yankees. It was, at the time, the second World Series in Marlins history in as many season-ending tournament appearances.

It would therefore be possible to see the young Eury Pérez start a game in the playoffs this year if Miami manages to maintain this rhythm.
