Saquon Barkley wants to be paid. And if possible, before July 17th.
As the July 17 deadline approaches, talks for a new contract have resumed between Saquon Barkley and Giants executives.
Although the running back has denied rumors of the talks, Ian Rapoport reports that talks have indeed resumed:
“Barkley said during his training camp that he would not announce his decision before the July 17 deadline in order to have room in the negotiations. Discussions resumed between the two parties. We will see if at the end of these Barkley will be the highest paid running back in the league. »
According to Rapoport, Barkley will play at least one more season for the Giants under the franchise tag. It remains to be seen whether he will be able to be persuasive in negotiations to obtain more.
As a reminder, Barkley would have to earn $16.1 million to be the highest-paid running back in the NFL. A financial package that promises to be complicated for the Giants who have already had to extend during the offseason Dexter Lawrence (DT) and Daniel Jones (QB).
After having greatly contributed to the return to the playoff of the franchise in 2022 with his ten touchdowns and 1312 yards amassed on the ground, the running back seems in a strong position to negotiate. Will that be enough to land the contract he is asking for? Reply before July 17.
