One may wonder, however, why the 2022 champions discussed a Chris Paul transfer. To cut it then and save money in the long run in order to offer a big contract to Draymond Green? Or to afford one more solution on the bench, with a replacement of choice for Stephen Curry?
Still, the option of a transfer seems unlikely because it would have been necessary to let go of equivalent contracts (Klay Thompson? Andrew Wiggins?) while the extension of Jordan Poole starts next season.
The more likely option, as already hinted at by ESPN, is that the Warriors were and still are interested in Chris Paul’s services as a third team, should the latter be cut and can then sign a low cost contract. (or even at least) for next season. But Golden State is far from the only team on the spot.
