Dallas gives up on Christian Wood

He was to be Luka Doncic’s counterpart on the inside, the one who would bring this balance to the Mavericks and help the Texas franchise take a step forward. But like Kristaps Porzingis before him, the mayonnaise didn’t really take. Arrived in June 2022, Christian Wood would already be preparing to leave Texas through the back door.

While he is going to be a “free agent” this summer, Mark Stein revealed that Dallas would not consider offering him a contract extension and would instead look to other profiles to supplement its already amputated racket of Dorian Finney-Smith during the season, in the exchange which brought in Kyrie Irving.

Freed from an element of nearly $ 15 million last season, the Mavs could turn to other free agents, with potentially Nikola Vucevic, Jerami Grant, Brook Lopez, Jakob Poeltl, Harrison Barnes or even Naz Reid or PJ Washington for targets, or setting up a trade to get what they are looking for under the circle.

For his part, Christian Wood will therefore have to find a new base to bounce back in the NBA, even if his second part of the season with Dallas was complicated and his defensive limits very real.
