Rico Hines is a household name in the NBA circuit. A former player in a minor role at UCLA, from 1997 to 2002, he then joined the staff of Don Nelson at the Warriors from 2006 to 2010, working with the players on a daily basis. He then became an NCAA assistant, with Steve Lavin in St John’s, between 2010 and 2015.
A figure on the basketball scene in California, Rico Hines has a huge address book and, since 2016, he launched summer “pickup games” attended by many NBA stars, from Kevin Durant to Devin Booker via James Harden or Russell Westbrook.
Passed by the team affiliated with the Sacramento Kings between 2016 and 2019, then squarely with the first team then, Rico Hines had finally integrated the staff of Nick Nurse at the Raptors last year, after having worked for a long time with Pascal Siakam. And despite the dismissal of Nick Nurse, Toronto hoped to be able to keep him on his staff.
Except that ESPN announces that the 45-year-old man has finally decided to follow Nick Nurse to the Sixers next year.
Rico Hines is joining the 76ers as an assistant on Nick Nurse’s coaching staff, sources tell ESPN. Hines had been a part of Nurse’s staff with the Raptors. Hines is a former player development coach who has worked his way to a front-of-the-bench assistant.
