No major leaguer has batted more than .400 since Ted Williams did so in 1941, when Williams finished the season with a .406 batting average.
It is certainly still early in the 2023 season, but Luis Arraez is making his eyes widen at the moment.
In last night’s (Monday) game against the Kansas City Royals, the second baseman added three hits to his record, bringing his batting average just under .400 to .399 .
It was the 25th over-hit game for Arraez this season.
The Miami Marlins took the opportunity to save themselves with a 9-6 win, bringing their record to 33 wins against 28 losses. A nice surprise so far!
Coming back to the story, after being held in check Friday against the Oakland A’s, Arraez has hit 10 hits in his last 13 at bats.
In addition to Williams’ brand, the 26-year-old could also become the first player since 1900 to be the American League and National League batting champion in consecutive seasons, winning the title with the Minnesota Twins in 2022.
Let’s say that the transaction that brought Arraez to Miami in return for the services of pitcher Pablo Lopez greatly benefits Floridians, but if it suits both teams.
As mentioned above, there is still a lot of baseball to be played, but this quest will be an exciting file to follow in the coming weeks.
