Karl-Anthony Towns admits he was very surprised by the transfer of Rudy Gobert

The arrival of Rudy Gobert at Wolves on July 1 surprised many people. Compared to everything that Minnesota has dropped (Malik Beasley, Patrick Beverley, Walker Kessler, Jarred Vanderbilt and multiple first rounds of the Draft) but also because the association with Karl-Anthony Towns did not seem natural.

And the fans were not the only ones surprised because KAT explains that he did not expect this transfer either…

“It’s something I wasn’t ready for” he confides thus in the Daily Delivery podcast. “I remember I was in London (on vacation) and I got this call. I had no idea what was going on. I was informed by social media, like everyone else, so it was… something”.

A conference semifinal as a minimum goal

Karl-Anthony Towns was therefore not consulted at all before the arrival of Rudy Gobert? It seems surprising, especially since it’s all his use that was going to change, making him go from pivot to strong winger.

“It was definitely an adjustment. I had to change positions, so that changed my whole approach to the offseason. I had started my summer training as a pivot. I prepared like a kingpin, I watched movies like a kingpin. Then, halfway through the offseason, I had to throw it all out the window. »

The first choice of the 2015 Draft explains that he decided to take this adjustment as a challenge, when he had already played strong end in high school or in university. Nevertheless, the association with Rudy Gobert has not really worked this season, even if the long injury of Karl-Anthony Towns makes the evaluation complicated.

In any case, Karl-Anthony Towns clearly admits that the season is a failure.

“We did not meet the expectations that had been set for us”concluded KAT, who had also announced that it was “the title or nothing” after the exchange of Rudy Gobert and who admits in the podcast that the semi-final of the conference was his minimum objective. “But we didn’t succeed. So obviously it hurts and yet it’s something I’m going to have to live with. »
