The Nets announced that Dorian Finney-Smith had undergone surgery on Wednesday to treat a “contracture” in the right little finger. He should be able to return to training in about six weeks. A “contracture” in the hand is when you can no longer stretch a finger, and it remains folded towards the palm.
It’s unclear when Finney-Smith got injured, but chances are he played with that issue for part of the season. At the end of the season, he was spotted on the injured list for a wrist problem, but it seems that it is probably related to this operated finger.
Landed at the Nets last February, as part of the exchange of Kyrie Irving to the Mavericks, Finney-Smith brought his profile of “3-and-D” to the Nets, perfectly complementary to Mikal Bridges and Cameron Johnson. However, after shooting 36% from 3-point range with Dallas this season, he’s struggled to find his rhythm in Brooklyn, as he’s only going to hit 31% of his long attempts. An outside address finally returned in the first round of the playoffs, with a very clean 41% of his shots from behind the arc in the four games against Philadelphia.
