The G-League championship will have one more team next season as the Portland Blazers will become the 29th franchise to have their own G-League affiliated team. The leaders made the announcementand while waiting to have its own facilities, ESPN announces that this team will play its home games at the University of Portland. However, the players will train in the same facilities as the Blazers. For the moment, the name of the team is not known, but we would not be surprised if the expression “Rip City” is present.
Usually, building a franchise takes 18 to 24 months, but owner Jody Allen and Blazers GM Joe Cronin will speed up the process to get the team ready for the start of the school year. Until now, the young elements of Portland were sent to the Kings in Stockton and to the Clippers. It was obviously not the best solution to train its young people, and the Blazers are not lacking in their workforce.
Now only the Suns don’t have a G-League franchise. But NBA antechamber boss Shareef Abdur-Rahim assures that it is on track and that all thirty franchises should have their own affiliate team for the 2024/25 season.
