Again last night (Monday), the New York Yankees offense remained in the locker room. Result? A third loss in four games, this time by a score of 6-1 against the Minnesota Twins.
After the game, manager Aaron Boone tried to light a fire in his flock.
We are the Yankees. We have to find a way to be better than that.
It remains to be seen whether the declaration of the skipper will whip his troops, because at this moment, a lethargy is well and truly set in motion.
It is true that the record of the Bronx Bombers, thirteen wins against ten losses, is not catastrophic and that several pieces are missing from the puzzle. We need only think of Giancarlo Stanton, Carlos Rodon and Luis Severino, to name a few.
But the Yankees are currently ranked fourth in the American League East, seven games behind the Tampa Bay Rays. They maintain a slim one-game lead in last place to qualify for the playoffs.
In addition, the offense is greatly lacking, Aaron Judge not being the savior we saw last year. No one is successful at bat right now.
Even if this is not yet worrying given the precocity of the season, a solution will have to be found quickly and the veterans of the club will have to get up sooner rather than later if they do not want the slippage to spiral out of control.
