Stephen Curry, a huge dumpling without consequence

“I was surprised, like everyone else”. Kevon Looney wasn’t the only one who took a while to realize the extent of the blunder in Stephen Curry. While the Warriors seemed to have done the hardest by moving to +5 at the start of the last minute of Game 4 against Sacramento (126-121), Stephen Curry made an unusual error to say the least.

Like Chris Webber 30 years ago, the leader indeed asked for a time-out, except that his team had no more! His coach, Steve Kerr tried to shout it to him, in vain, before finally taking his head in his hands following his superstar’s dumpling.

“I’m not going to lie, I thought I did the smartest thing in the world”, conceded Stephen Curry after the meeting. “When I got the ball, turned around and saw the two-man team, I realized there was no way out, so instead of losing the ball, I I thought I played it smart, when in fact it was the other way around. I looked at the bench and everyone was shaking their heads. It is an unfortunate situation”.

Stephen Curry was unaware…

Behind, Malik Monk scored the free throw penalty, but there were still 4 points down for the Kings, 42 seconds from the end. With possession in hand, it was De’Aaron Fox who put the pressure on the locals by slamming a 3-pointer in stride, making the score 126-125.

Fortunately for Stephen Curry and his family, Harrison Barnes, who inherited the winning ball at the buzzer, did not materialize what could have been the perfect heist, even though Sacramento delivered a very decent performance in the together.

“We “challenged” a whistle, and when it was refused, when leaving the rally, it was up to me to say it”explained Steve Kerr, who presented himself as the first person in charge. “It’s up to me to remind the guys: ‘We’ve used up all our time-outs.’ And I didn’t say it, so Stephen didn’t know. It is my mistake not to have clarified things”.

The honor is safe since the Warriors won and tied at 2-2. in the series. This free warning also had the merit of waking up the troops to the importance of being attentive to each possession in view of a Game 5 in Sacramento which promises to be epic.

“Fortunately, we got away with the victory, but it’s a good lesson to remind us how much every detail counts. We know it, but we have to know if there are time-outs, analyze the situation. It was just an unfortunate streak for once”concluded Stephen Curry.
