By winning Game 3 with the Wolves, the Nuggets are (almost) guaranteed to make it to the conference semi-finals. Indeed, no team in the history of the playoffs has ever recovered such a delay.
Nevertheless, Mike Malone has set another objective for his troupe: finish the job as soon as possible!
“Leading 3-0, our current mindset is – no disrespect to Wolves because it’s about us – but we don’t want to go back to Denver”, the Nuggets coach said bluntly.
It is therefore with this state of mind that the Nuggets attacked the meeting, dominating it from the head and shoulders.
“We didn’t want them to come back to life”explained Nikola Jokic. “We wanted to be the aggressors, hit them first. They have to react to what we do. It was our plan. I think we did it well. »
And that puts Denver in a position to achieve the first “sweep” in its history! Indeed, the Nuggets are one of four franchises (with the Clippers, Grizzlies and Wolves) to have never made a clean sweep.
“We know that closing a series can often be the most difficult game”concluded Mike Malone. “Hopefully we can find a way to do it. We don’t have to be like, ‘Hey, we can just go back to Denver to finish.’ Our mindset should be to get it all done by Game 4.”
