Fred VanVleet remains evasive about his future

After the Raptors’ loss at home to the Bulls on Wednesday night in “play-in”, Fred VanVleet was treated to the traditional press conference which closes the end of the season.

From the first question, the point guard was asked about his future, a subject that should fuel the offseason when the trend would lean towards a departure from Toronto by declining his “ player option at $22.8 million.

The person concerned, who signed two months ago with the Klutch Sports team in order to prepare for the summer, kindly kicked in touch, and for good reason, he still has two months before delivering his final decision.

“I don’t think it’s the right timing. We are still in the moment and this complicated end of the season. So I’m going to take a few days, a few weeks, I don’t think there’s any reason to rush before making a decision. It’s going to take some time.” did he declare.

Fred VanVleet disappointed by the energy of his team

FVV also confided the importance of the opinion of his relatives. “As for the decision-making process, I stick to the strict circle, I would say it’s the people who live under my roof, and my mother. The objective is really to seek what is best for my family and me”.

He also drew a fatalistic assessment of this disappointing season, without the playoffs for the second time in three years, perhaps his last in a Raptors jersey…

“We haven’t done what we have to do all year, play our game at a high level. We weren’t good enough. How many times have we started a match talking about energy, only to end up not giving it our all, not being smart enough? There are of course many things that could have been done better. When you have your head in the handlebars, sometimes there are complicated moments like that. At the end of the day, it’s been a disappointing season in terms of our standards and the tradition we’ve built here.”

Player option : possibility for a player to activate (or not) the last year of his contract, in order to end his lease or become free agent a year in advance.
