In recent years, the name of Ian Happ has often come up in trade rumors.
After all, the outfielder is out on the trails a lot, hitting from the left, driving his share of runs (72 last year) and hitting both sides of home plate.
Defensively, he is an interesting asset for his team.
We knew that the Cubs were looking to keep him and now it’s done: he signed a three-year contract extension with the Cubs.
There is talk of a contract that will begin for the 2024 season, when he would have become a free agent for the first time, and which will cover the years 2024, 2025 and 2026.
He will earn $61 million in all, or $20.33 million per year.
He gets a full no-trade clause and he doesn’t have an exit option in his contract. It’s a fairly standard contract, then.
Teams looking for a good left-handed outfielder (ambidextrous, in fact) will have to look elsewhere since the former first choice is no longer available. His signature also makes the next autonomy market even slimmer.
- Edwin Diaz possibly expects to return this year.
- More revelations about the Astros scandal.
- Gleyber Torres and DJ LeMahieu are not 100%.
- Ricky Tiedemann will pitch tomorrow.
