It won’t have dragged on. Barely the end of the season Rockets pronounced, The Athletic And ESPN have agreed to announce that Stephen Silas will no longer be the coach of the Texas franchise next season, because its leaders will not activate the “team option” of his contract to keep him.
A decision which is not surprising, since the 49-year-old technician had already hinted a few days ago that he was at the end of his Houston. It will be official tomorrow, once he meets his GM Rafael Stone.
Arrived at the Rockets in the 2020 offseason, to coach a team then led by James Harden and Russell Westbrook, Stephen Silas finally found himself at the head of a reconstruction project. What he did not expect, posting a record of 59 wins for 177 defeats (the worst success percentage of a coach who managed at least 200 games), and he should now return to this role of assistant that he occupied for about twenty years (Dallas, Charlotte, Golden State, New Orleans, Cleveland).
Houston leaders will have to look for a new technician to get their group off the ground and several names have already leaked: Nick Nurse (Raptors), Frank Vogel (ex-Lakers), Ime Udoka (ex-Celtics) , Kenny Atkinson (Warriors assistant), James Borrego (ex-Hornets) and Adrian Griffin (Raptors assistant).
