Andrew Wiggins on the pitch for serious business

With 51 days of absence and 23 games missed, the step was probably too high for Andrew Wiggins, and the risk too big from the point of view of the staff to put the Canadian back in the bath for the last two games of the regular season, at Sacramento then to Portland.

Steve Kerr therefore cut short the suspense on Wednesday by announcing that Andrew Wiggins would stay away from the floors for ten days in order to get back into physical condition. “He will continue to work and he will ramp up quite quickly”said the Golden State coach.

On track, but not ready yet

If he has not played since February 13, Andrew Wiggins had kept in shape with a personal coach. But the Warriors staff still had to validate his general level before allowing him to return to the game. While his teammates were preparing for the upcoming match against Sacramento, the winger therefore took part in a training session with young players. and part of the staff.

“He played all over the court, 5-on-5. He did well.”, said Steve Kerr. “He hasn’t played for two months and he’s on the pitch, he’s running and he looks good. He still has a number of days to go before he’s ready to play an NBA game. We can’t put him in a bad position health-wise. We have to make sure that we prepare him well, that his strength and physical condition are good before we put him on the pitch.”

The stakes are however high on this end of the regular season since the place of the Warriors in the Top 6 in the West is not yet assured! But the staff decided not to play with fire, preferring to approach the postseason with Andrew Wiggins in great shape rather than risking injury upfront.
