[Draft Sheets] Gervon Dexter (DL), a very restless giant

Gervon Dexter – Defensive tackle – 21 years old – Junior – Florida

Height: 1m98

Weight: 142 kg

Estimated draft position: 2nd round

NFL Comparison: Christian Barmore (Patriots)

2022 stats: 13 matches, 55 tackles are 4 for loss and 2 sacks, 1 deflected pass, 1 interception

During his 3 years in Florida, Gervon Dexter showed different faces, but above all a potential capable of intriguing any NFL scout. He has a lot of qualities that coaching can’t provide, which makes him a candidate for a defensive tackle position, probably at 4-3, and a very interesting project for a franchise looking to strengthen its rotation and potentially have a super player within a year or two.

Strong points

– Fast
– First step
– Excellent on the run stop
– Athletic qualities

The first thing that jumps out with Dexter is that he has excellent athleticism which shows in many areas of his game. his tackles for loss at the college level. If Dexter wins his duel, it’s often on explosiveness or first contact. He regularly manages to interfere in the backfield opponent to tackle the opposing running back and it will certainly be his first weapon when he arrives in the NFL. The interesting thing with Dexter is that he has everything to become a very good defensive tackle with a little coaching.

Weak points

– Lack of power
– Body position

If the former Florida player often wins his duels on first contact, it’s because it’s kind of his only way to win them. If they find themselves blocked, they often remain so and lack the tenacity to continue their action and seek another solution. His game is mainly based on speed and we must admit that he lacks a bit of power to create mayhem, even if he does not manage to pass his opponent. The old Gator often remains too high on his supports and gives too much surface to his vis-à-vis to block him. He will have to bend his body a little more in the pros to slip through the fingers of the offensive linemen.

Possible destinations

Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Los Angeles Chargers, New Orleans Saints

In Cleveland, we secured the services of Dalvin Tomlinson who is an excellent defensive tackle and could prove to be a very good mentor for Dexter.
A little further north, in Detroit, we seem to have found the pass rush the next few years, but the center of the defensive line is a little more fragile and Dexter could still bring a little more juice to this defensive line.
At the Chargers, the least we can say is that the run-stop was outstanding and Gervon Dexter could have an immediate impact in this register.
In New Orleans, the defense disappointed last year and apart from a perennial Cameron Jordan, there are few top players on the defensive line. Adding a bit of talent would certainly be a good idea.
