Angry, Rudy Gobert points the finger at referees’ favoritism

After Fred VanVleet or Monty Williams, and many others, it’s the turn of Rudy Gobert to go after the men in grey. Last night, Wolves came to a halt after four straight wins, beaten 107-100 in Phoenix. There is nothing dishonoring in bowing to the 4th in the conference, who found, moreover, Kevin Durant, but the French pivot did not appreciate the way. It’s the disparity in free throws that shocks him with 27 shots allowed to the Suns, against 12 to the Wolves. Devin Booker alone has shot more free throws than all of Wolves combined.

” It is not fair. It’s really not fair.” Gobert complains. “It’s every night. I’ve been in this league for 10 years and always try to give the benefit of the doubt but it’s hard for me to think they haven’t tried to help [les Suns] to win tonight. I find it hard to believe they didn’t try to help the Warriors win the other night or the Kings the other night. It’s so obvious. As a basketball player who’s been in this league for so long, it’s a lack of respect. »

Rudy Gobert frustrated with this situation

These are obviously very serious accusations, and the NBA will no doubt hit hard. But Gobert, who had two offensive fouls whistled on screens late in the game, believes Wolves are simply victims of their situation as a superstarless franchise in a small market. This franchise is not very sexy, and everyone prefers to see the Suns, the Lakers or the Warriors in the playoffs.

“We are aware that we are not one of the biggest markets in the NBA, and that we want to see KD in the playoffs, Steph, LeBron… The Wolves are not there yet. We have to keep moving forward, playing despite that, and it’s frustrating, especially for me. »

For his coach, Chris Finch, Monty Williams’ recent rant simply paid off. “It worked as they went on the line 27 times compared to 12 for us. Talking about it must have worked for them because it’s historically a team that doesn’t get that many whistles. »
