New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman’s inability to find a good left fielder this offseason is hurting the Bronx right now, especially with the injury to Harrison Bader.
So much so that the Bombardiers will test the idea of placing Isiah Kiner-Falefa in center field. The latter is currently working with coach Nick Swisher and he will get at least one start this weekend at the number eight position.
It should be mentioned from the outset that all the ideas that take IKF away from the shortstop are good ideas. This will FINALLY allow the emergence of young Oswald Peraza and Anthony Volpe.
That said, manager Aaron Boone believes Kiner-Falefa’s athleticism will allow him to transition into a utility role.
“He’s been working in the outfield the last few days. I watched a video the other day, and just looking at how his feet move and stuff, I think he’ll be natural. His ability to move, speed and athleticism will help him adapt.
Kiner-Falefa has already been able to adapt to new positions, he who has evolved as a receiver and as a third baseman during his career, in addition to the shortstop of course.
If the experience is conclusive, it will give the manager more ammunition, because with the surplus in the infield and the lack of depth in the outfield, we could already see the big headache coming.
