For an eighth time, The Antechamber recently conducted its traditional poll among Quebec hockey players from across the NHL to determine who, in their opinion, are our best representatives in the best league in the world.
The only Quebecer to have had his place on the podium during each of the eight editions of this vote, the excellent Patrice Bergeron, captain of the Boston Bruins, comes at the top of this list by a considerable margin.
“It’s definitely a great honour. As it is voted by players that I face every day, it is an honor. I take it with a lot of humility, because I think there are several players who deserve to be in my place. Every year, there are many players who arrive, who improve, I’m happy to see that, ”said the center of the Bruins in an interview.
Already crowned in this poll in its 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019 versions, the 37-year-old center continues to do the most and the good weather with the best formation on the Bettman circuit, and he received 34 first-place votes. , 25 more than his nearest pursuer, Pierre-Luc Dubois, of the Winnipeg Jets.
The veterans have also maintained their stranglehold in 2022-2023, since defender Kristopher Letang, who will turn 36 next month, concluded the vote with the third position.
The back of the Pittsburgh Penguins had already won first place in this ranking, in 2017.
Crowned last year after his exceptional 115-point season, Jonathan Huberdeau was excluded from the top-3 in his first year in a Calgary Flames uniform, slipping all the way to fourth. The top-10 was completed by Phillip Danault (5th), Thomas Chabot (6th), Jonathan Marchessault (7th), Marc-André Fleury (8th), David Perron (9th) and Yanni Gourde (10th).
Among the other players who received at least one vote, we find the goalkeeper of the Canadian Samuel Montembeault (a vote of 3rd place and another of 4th place). His teammate David Savard got a 4th place vote while New York Rangers forward Alexis Lafrenière amassed three fifth place votes.
For calculating points in the poll, a 1st place vote awarded the player five points, 2nd place (4 pts), 3rd place (3 pts), 4th place (2 pts), and 5th place (1 pt). Bergeron therefore comes first with a cumulative of 244 points thanks to 56 votes broken down as follows: 34 (1st place), 12 (2nd place), 6 (3rd place), 4 (4th place). Dubois finished with 166 points for the second place in comparison, 16 more than Letang who is third.

The only Quebecers who did not have the opportunity to vote in this election are Frédéric Allard, the newcomer to the Canadiens who played his 1er match this season on Sunday, as well as Alex Chiasson, who played his 1er Saturday game with the Detroit Red Wings.
Only players born in Quebec were considered. In addition, three sons of former Quebec Nordiques players are exceptions. Thus, Paul Stastny (Peter Stastny), Christian Wolanin (Craig Wolanin) and Kurtis MacDermid (Paul MacDermid) were not considered, even if they were all born in Quebec.
In the case of Stastny and Wolanin, they grew up in the United States before playing in the American hockey programs, while MacDermid grew up in Ontario, where his father is from, before playing in the OHL.
