Yesterday, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hurt himself during his team’s game. It’s his knee that’s not 100% right now.
Yesterday, he also had an MRI and the good news is that no physical damage was found: he just has swelling.
It’s not great news, but under the circumstances, it’s not bad news either. He just needs rest.
The discomfort he feels isn’t pain, but let’s just say the Blue Jays don’t want to take a chance on their best hitter – and that’s normal.
The problem? Tomorrow, Guerrero Jr. was due to leave for the Dominican Republic team camp on the sidelines of the World Classic.
That said, in the circumstances, the Jays have announced that he will not wear the colors of his country: he will stay in Dunedin to heal for the season.
We know how much he wanted to represent his country to play alongside his friends (including Teoscar Hernandez), but he obviously had no choice.
It was the decision to make, even if it must be heartbreaking. But the Dominican Republic will still have a whole club.
It’s a shame for the show, but his #1 commitment is to the Toronto Blue Jays, who will pay him $14.5 million in 2023.
Remember that another Blue Jays star, Alejandro Kirk, will not be able to represent Mexico. In his case, however, it was due to the birth of his first child that caused him to miss the start of training camp.
