That’s it, teams can officially put the franchise tag on a free player from their team
It is this Tuesday that one of the important moments of the NFL offseason begins. Indeed, teams can now place a franchise tag on one of their players before they join the free market.
This year the annual salaries, by position, under the scheme are as follows:
Quarterback: 32,416,000 million
Running back: 10,091,000 million
Receiver: 19,743,000 million
Tight end: 11,345,000 million
Offensive line: 18,244,000 million
Defensive end: 19,727,000 million
Defensive tackle: 18,937,000 million
Linebacker: 20,926,000 million
Cornerback: 18,140,000 million
Safety: 14,460,000 million
Kicker/punter: 5,393,000 million
Each team can only use one franchise tag. This therefore promises some questions among certain teams, especially the Giants, who could hesitate to play the tag for Daniel Jones or Saquon Barkley. Other names like Lamar Jackson, Orlando Brown or Josh Jacobs are to be watched.
As a reminder, franchises have until March 8 to apply the franchise tag, and then until July 15 to finalize a long-term contract with the player. After this date, the player will play the 2023 season under the franchise tag.
