Jake Guentzel scored 33 seconds from the start of overtime to give the Pittsburgh Penguins a 3-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks.
Guentzel, who got his 18th goal of the campaign in a two-on-one downhill with Sidney Crosby, also participated in Bryan Rust’s equalizer 25 seconds from the end of regulation time to force extra time.
Crosby also collected the 1,458th point of his career, which allows him to overtake Teemu Selanne for 17th in NHL history.
Rickard Rakell earned three assists in his first game against his former team, who traded him at last season’s trade deadline on Feb. 21.
The Penguins have bounced back from back-to-back losses, picking up only a third win in their last 11 outings.
Jason Zucker opened the scoring for the Penguins at 4:16 of the first period, celebrating his 31st birthday in style, while Evgeni Malkin was the other scorer in the victory.
The Ducks came from behind twice in the game, first thanks to Adam Henrique at 1-1 on the power play, then John Klingberg at 2-2 in the third period. With less than 5 minutes left in the game, Trevor Zegras then gave his team the lead for the first time.
The Penguins bombarded the net of John Gibson, who gave up four times on 46 shots, while Casey DeSmith walked away with the victory by virtue of a 26-save performance.
Halak’s fourth straight win with Rangers
Barclay Goodrow had a goal and an assist, leading the New York Rangers to a 3-1 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Goodrow made it 2-0 at 19:02 in the first period on the power play.
He was also an accomplice to Vitali Kravtsov’s goal midway through the second period.
Mika Zibanejad scored his 20th goal of the season midway through the first period.
Kaapo Kakko has provided two assists for Rangers, who have won three of their last four games.
Jaroslav Halak made 22 saves, only being beaten by Andrew Peeke.
The former Montreal Canadiens goaltender signed a fourth win in a row. Prior to that, Halak had just one win in eight outings this season.
Elvis Merzlikins stopped 30 shots. He’s had just one win in his last six starts.
Columbus got just two shots on goal in the first frame.
