For several weeks, we have been witnessing one of the biggest sagas in the world of sports in terms of the free agent market. But all that is now over.
Indeed, Carlos Correa has FINALLY passed his physical tests and the Minnesota Twins will officially announce his signing to a six-year, $200 million contract later today.
Although Correa is assured of this monetary value, his pact contains options based on his playing time. It could earn him up to an additional $70 million.
The conclusion of this file comes a little less than a month after the shortstop’s agreement fell through with the San Francisco Giants. Subsequently, Correa’s agent turned to the New York Mets in order to sign a lucrative contract, but again without success.
The 28-year-old spent the first seven seasons of his career with the Houston Astros before signing a three-year contract with Minnesota last offseason. He did, however, use his exit clause to become free as air again at the end of the 2022 campaign.
The Twins come out as the big winners in this soap opera, having greatly reduced the risks to Correa’s health.
We will therefore have to look elsewhere in order to be entertained before the start of the season!
