Kansas City Chiefs (13-3) – Denver Broncos (4-12): 27-24
If we can regularly see a brand new coach impose himself for his taking office, as was the case for Jeff Saturday with the Colts, this was not the case for the Broncos. Jerry Rosburg, acting coach of Denver since the dismissal in the week of Nathaniel Hackett, failed to offer victory to his team against the Chiefs. Nevertheless, the face displayed by the Broncos is one of the most attractive that we have seen this season.
A positive point, therefore, is that this team is capable of playing football. Until they had the drive for victory in their hands, before a hesitant Russell Wilson was flattened by Khalen Saunders on the 4th attempt, thus sealing a more complicated victory than expected for Kansas City.
Kansas City is getting into trouble on its own
If we could expect a demonstration of Chiefs in full possession of their means for several weeks, it has not happened. However, Kansas City’s first offensive drive kicked off the game. A sequence of perfect actions, concluded by Isiah Pacheco. Then, while Patrick Mahomes (29/42, 328 yards, 3 TD, 1 INT) seems perfectly entered into his match, he launches a nasty interception in the end zone in the hands of Justin Simmons.
On the next drive, the Chiefs’ defense manages to stop Denver’s attack, but Kadarius Toney loses the ball on his punt return, thus offering an ideal position to allow Russell Wilson (26/38, 222 yards, 1 TD , 1 INT, 2 TD on the ground), correct without being flamboyant, to score on the ground.
Jerick McKinnon enters the scene
While the Broncos are better than resisting, leading the score, it’s the moment that Jerick McKinnon (5 rec, 52 yards, 2 TD) chose to enter the track. The running back, on fire for several weeks, is receiving a pass from Mahomes to allow his team to take the lead at the break.
Because, opposite, Denver does not abdicate. Well led by an iron defense, the Broncos strongly limit the advance of Andy Reid’s troops and, for once, seem able to respond present in attack. They will even go so far as to pass in the middle of the 3rd quarter on a nice pass from Wilson to Okwuegbunam.
But the Chiefs remain the Chiefs, and will in less than 5 minutes put an end to Denver’s hopes. A touchdown from tight end Blake Bell, an interception from L’Jarius Sneed on the first action of the next drive, then another touchdown from Jerick McKinnon will allow Kansas City to take shelter from a comeback from Denver.
The Chiefs win and continue to hope for a faux pas from Buffalo in the race for the AFC top spot. For their part, the Broncos have shown the best, and can hope that the problems this season came mainly from Nathaniel Hackett.
