For a few days, Carlos Correa was undoubtedly the best player available on the free agency market. The star shortstop was in the sights of many teams and we wondered where he would eventually sign.
And now, late on Tuesday night, we now have the answer: Correa has agreed with the San Francisco Giants on the terms of a 13-year, $350 million pact.
Since the opening of the market, we felt that the Giants wanted to strike a blow. They were obviously at the heart of the derby for the services of Aaron Judge, but since the latter decided to return to the Yankees, the Giants had to look elsewhere.
And in Correa they get their new franchise player. He should therefore succeed Brandon Crawford (who is still in town, however) as the team’s regular shortstop.
It’s a big catch for the Giants, who get a guy almost as solid as Judge for a little less money and a much lower annual salary.
