The Boston Bruins made short work of the Colorado Avalanche in a 5-1 win for their 14th straight home win. They are still undefeated (14-0) at TD Garden this season.
It is the longest home winning streak started at the start of the season in NHL history. The 1963-64 Chicago Blackhawks and 2021-22 Florida Panthers held the previous record with 11.
David Pastrnak and Trent Frederic had two goals each in the win, while Jake DeBrusk completed the scoring late in the third period. It was DeBrusk’s 100th career NHL goal.
Linus Ullmark stopped 24 of 25 shots aimed at him. Charlie McAvoy had two assists.
Andrew Cogliano was the Avalanche’s lone scorer. He took advantage of a collision between two Bruins players to ruin Ullmark’s shutout in the third period.
Pavel Francouz made 34 saves for the Avalanche, which is without forwards Valeri Nichushkin, Evan Rodrigues, Darren Helm and Gabriel Landeskog, as well as defensemen Bowen Byram and Kurtis MacDermid. During the first period, they also lost the services of winger Artturi Lehkonen.
An 11th straight road win for the Devils
Jack Hughes scored the game-winning goal and the New Jersey Devils beat the Philadelphia Flyers 3-2 to extend their home-ice winning streak to 11.
The Devils are one win shy of the NHL record for consecutive road wins. The New Jersey squad lost their first game of the season on the road to the Flyers on Oct. 13 and haven’t lost on the road since. The next road game for the Devils is December 12, in New York, against the Rangers.
The Flyers attempted a comeback late in the game when Lukas Sedlak cut the gap to just one goal with his third of the season, but the mighty Devils held on to win.
Besides Hughes, Fabian Zetterlund and Dawson Mercer also found the back of the net in the win for New Jersey.
This is the fourth win in five games for Lindy Ruff’s men.
Akira Schmid got his fifth start of the season in front of the Devils net. He stopped 31 of 33 shots aimed at him.
Kane reaches 1,200 NHL points
Patrick Kane and Max Domi both had three points and the Chicago Blackhawks defeated the New York Rangers 5-2 at Madison Square Garden. Kane hit the 1,200 career point plateau in that duel.
Reese Johnson opened the scoring for the Hawks after just 2:38 into the first period. Johnson deflected Jake McCabe’s point shot for his second of the season.
The Blackhawks’ massive offense then kicked into gear in the middle period. Patrick Kane doubled the lead with his fourth goal of the season. A minute later, Domi also scored during a five-man attack to add to the Hawks lead.
Rangers gave signs of life late in the second. Mika Zibanejad found the back of the net for the 13th time this season, also on the massive attack.
The Blackhawks, however, were on fire with one more man. Taylor Raddysh gave his team a three-goal lead by completing the game orchestrated by Kane and Domi. It was on this goal that Kane reached the 1,200-point plateau in the NHL. Domi then scored his second goal of the game late in the third.
Petr Mrazek was doing well in net for the Hawks, stopping 21 of 22 shots he faced, but the goaltender was unable to finish the game due to a groin injury. Arvid Soderblom made five relief saves.
Jaroslav Halak stopped just 16 shots as Rangers suffered their fourth straight loss. Artemi Panarin had two assists and Chris Kreider scored his 12th of the season.
Vegas has the best over Detroit
The Vegas Golden Knights got the better of the Detroit Red Wings with a 4-1 win.
Jack Eichel opened the scoring after just a minute of play in the first period to put Vegas in charge. Jonathan Marchessault then added his two cents to the game by doubling the Golden Knights’ power play lead.
Oskar Sundqvist allowed the Wings to blacken by scoring with the advantage of a man to reduce the gap to one goal.
Phil Kessel and Reilly Smith, however, put the game out of reach for the Wings by giving Vegas a three-goal lead with their 5 respectively.e and 12e fillet of the season.
Kadri ends his drought and the Flames dominate
Andrew Mangiapane scored twice as the Calgary Flames defeated the Washington Capitals 5-2.
With an assist on Magianpane’s second goal, Nazem Kadri finally ended a seven-game drought without picking up a point.
In the defeat, Alexander Ovechkin became the 14th player in history, and the only one still active, to play 1300 games with the same team.
Blake Coleman opened the scoring with two minutes left in the first, beating Darcy Kuemper in the top.
Except that in the last seconds of the period, Conor Sheary also found the top of the net on the power play to create the equality.
The Flames chained three unanswered goals before seeing John Carlson score in a losing cause 66 seconds from the end of the game.
Elias Lindholm completed the scoring in an empty net. Mikael Backlund had three assists in the win, while goaltender Dan Vladar blocked 27 shots.
Panthers end Kraken’s 7-game winning streak
Carter Verhaeghe scored twice 26 seconds apart in the first period, Matthew Tkachuk scored his 12th goal of the season and had an assist, and the Florida Panthers ended the Kraken’s seven-game winning streak of Seattle with a 5-1 victory on Saturday.
The league’s longest winning streak came to an end as the Kraken were unable to beat goaltender Spencer Knight except for Jared McCann early in the second period. Knight made 36 saves and the Panthers won back-to-back games for the first time in nearly a month.
Aleksi Heponiemi and Gustav Forsling also hit the mark for the Panthers as Sam Bennett had three assists. Three of the Panthers’ five goals have come on the power play.
Philipp Grubauer made 23 saves for the Kraken.
Horvat plays heroes in overtime against the Coyotes
Bo Horvat scored with 50.1 seconds left in overtime as the Vancouver Canucks beat the Arizona Coyotes 3-2 on Saturday.
Brock Boeser, who was scheduled to be left out of the lineup but took part in the game due to an injury to Dakota Joshua, also scored for the Canucks (10-12-3).
Jakob Chychrun and Christian Fischer hit the target for the Coyotes (7-11-4), who haven’t won in their last four outings.
Spencer Martin stopped 21 of 23 shots at the Canucks goal. He takes over from Thatcher Demko, who is expected to miss about six weeks of action due to a lower body injury.
Karel Vejmelka made 29 saves for the Coyotes.
Necas steps out to help Canes beat Kings
Martin Necas had a goal and an assist as the Carolina Hurricanes extended their winning streak to four by beating the Los Angeles Kings 4-2 on Saturday.
Brady Skjei, Sebastian Aho and Andrei Svechnikov also scored for the Hurricanes, who earned at least one point for the 10th time in their last 11 games.
Pyotr Kochetkov made 31 saves for the Hurricanes while Brent Burns had two assists.
Samuel Fagemo scored his first career goal for the Kings, while Arthur Kaliyev scored on the power play.
In the loss, Jonathan Quick allowed four goals on 31 shots.
