It was tonight that the two Cy Young trophies were awarded in major league baseball. It was especially interesting to see if Sandy Alcantara and Justin Verlander were going to be unanimously nominated.
In the case of Alcantara, it was.
Having a season of 228.2 innings, 2.28 average, six complete games and 207 strikeouts was enough.
He became the 15th unanimous winner in the Nationals and he became the first winner in Miami history. Only the Rockies and Rangers have never had a winner.
And in the American, Verlander was also, in the end, unanimously nominated.
It’s no wonder the pitcher got his hands on a third career Cy Young. He was so good – and he will monetize it this winter.
Dylan Cease finished second and Alek Manoah of the Blue Jays finished third. Shohei Ohtani is fourth.
Kudos to both guys.
- Will Venable is going to Arlington.
- The search for a GM in Houston is not quick.
- Change of number for Whit Merrifield.
