Disappointed by his “apology”, Adam Silver wants to meet Kyrie Irving

With his donation of 500,000 dollars, doubled by the Nets, Kyrie Irving thought perhaps to put an end to the controversy following his message towards a film defending the thesis of the “Black Hebrew Israelites”.

After a tense first press conference where he explained that he was not going “not backing down from what I believe in”the Nets point guard made a half-apology, acknowledging “the negative impact of (his) message towards the Jewish community” and “bearing this responsibility”. Nevertheless, he had not completely denied this conspiracy theory with strong anti-Semitic overtones, contenting himself with explaining that he did not believe “that everything said in the documentary is true or reflects my morals and my principles”.

What push Adam Silver to come out of his reserve, to finally communicate on the situation.

“Kyrie Irving made a rash decision by posting a link to a film containing deeply offensive anti-Semitic material” explains the commissioner. “While we appreciate that he agreed to work with the Brooklyn Nets and the Anti-Defamation League to combat anti-Semitism and other forms of discrimination, I am disappointed that he did not present unreserved apologies and that he did not more specifically denounce the vile and harmful content contained in the film he chose to promote. I will be meeting with Kyrie in person over the next week to discuss this situation.”

For the moment, there is still no question of sanction for Kyrie Irving, the NBA and its players seem very embarrassed in the face of this whole situation.
