Mark Stein announces that the Nets have hired Jeff Bower for a scouting role. We remain somewhat puzzled by this decision because Jeff Bower is a big name among NBA leaders. At the Hornets in the mid-2000s, it was he who selected Chris Paul as GM of the Hornets.
Under his control, and that of Byron Scott, his young training will make the greatest in the West tremble. He even tried his hand at coaching, before giving way to Monty Williams. Still at the Hornets.
We then find him in Detroit where in 2014, he was appointed GM to relaunch the franchise with Stan Van Gundy. They will manage to win the playoffs, before finally being dismissed together in 2018.
The following year, the direction of the Suns to be vice-president and work with the inexperienced GM James Jones. He finds Chris Paul and Monty Williams there, and the franchise reaches the Finals in 2021. He leaves the Suns after the lost final, and fifteen months later, here he is bouncing back to the Nets, a franchise that is rocking, where coach Steve Nash and GM Sean Marks were challenged by Kevin Durant over the summer.
It is therefore a little difficult to believe that it is just for a recruiting role, even if it is his main strength, Jeff Bower having led the “scouting” department of the Hornets from 1997 to 2009…
