This year, at the beginning of June, the Angels trusted Phil Nevin to take the helm of the team after he dismissed Joe Maddon.
The season really wasn’t perfect, but the Angels still decided the interim manager was going to lose his interim title.
Nevin is the new training manager… for one year. He signed a contract for 2023 only, which puts him at the end of the contract. Normally managers don’t like that.
Why did you accept, then?
It was, the way I see it, his best way to get a managerial job in the Majors in 2023.
But above all, with the Angels who are for sale, the club is not committed to the long term and the new management will be able, if necessary, to clean up.
Really, I have the feeling that the club is trying not to take a step back in view of 2023, but they are not trying to move forward due to the sale of the club.
That said, to convince Shohei Ohtani to stay in town, is this the best idea? I don’t have the answer, but I hope the Angels do.
