Midway through the season last July, the Toronto Blue Jays changed managers. Charlie Montoyo, who didn’t seem to have the drive necessary in the eyes of the leaders, was replaced by his bench coach, John Schneider.
His effect was quick, but in August his club hit a slump. However, it has changed over the past few weeks.
Yesterday, the manager of the Jays notably had the upper hand over that of the Yankees, Aaron Boone.
Because Schneider has the interim title, we have to wonder about his future. GM Ross Atkins was just that and said he was open to keeping him on for the long haul.
Me, I’ve always been a fan of Schneider (since the process to replace John Gibbons) and I think he did a good job. His club is 2.5 games ahead in the race for second best and the guys are following him.
We’ll see what he does in the playoffs, though.
His management during matches is good and the proof is that he works miracles with his enclosure. Yes, he had backup at the deadline, but…
Since the manager change, the relievers’ ERA is 3.39, good for seventh in MLB.
There is little time left in the season and the guys will have to hold on, but right now it seems to be off to a good start.
