Alexander Romanov made his New York Islanders debut in a 4-1 loss to the Rangers on Monday night at Madison Square Garden.
The defender stood out by distributing three shoulder shots, including a solid check at the expense of Brennan Othmann.
Employed alongside Noah Dobson, Romanov was used for 20:22. He posted a minus 2 differential in the loss.
Igor Shesterkin stopped all 14 shots he faced starting midway through the second period.
K’Andre Miller scored a shorthanded goal and Othmann had two assists for Rangers. Dylan Garand made nine saves replacing Shesterkin, who went 31:41 after winning the Vezina Trophy last season.
Robin Salo scored for the Islanders, who lost in Lane Lambert’s first game as coach.
Semyon Varlamov allowed four goals on 20 shots in 31:15 before being replaced by Jakub Skarek, who made 15 saves.
Jimmy Vesey, Chris Kreider and Zac Jones were the other Rangers scorers.

Ryan Johansen tied the game to allow Nashville to force overtime 5:25 remaining in the third period on a deflection.
