While team management believed it was a minor injury, Boeser had to undergo surgery and will be out for a little longer than expected.
The 25-year-old American is coming off a somewhat disappointing 2021-22 season, scoring 23 goals and 23 assists in 71 games, his highest total of games played in a single campaign.
Selected in the first round in 2015 (23rd overall) by the Canucks, Boeser has 256 points in 324 games so far in the Bettman circuit.
Vancouver will play its first game of the season on October 12, when it faces the Edmonton Oilers.
