2022 NFL salary cap set at $208.2 million

As expected for several weeks, the salary cap is rising again. According to ESPN, the NFL has issued a memo to all of its teams informing them that the maximum payroll has been set at $208.2 million for the 2022 season.

The uptick is significant from 2021’s 182.5 million. The COVID-related drop in revenue had led to a drop in the salary cap, which stood at 198.2 million in 2020.

This is the first time in history that the salary cap has been set at more than 200 million greenbacks. The resumption of a pretty crazy uptrend. In 1994, the salary cap was $34.6 million. The 100 million mark was passed in 2006 ($102 million).

In addition, the league also announced the amount that teams will have to pay in the event of a franchise tag this season. Orlando Brown, for example, will receive 16.6 million with the Chiefs. For Jessie Bates, it will be 12.9 million.

• Wide receivers: $18.419 million

• Tight ends: $10.931 million

• Lineman offense: $16.662 million

• Cornerbacks: $17.287 million

• Safeties: $12.911 million

• Kickers and punters: $5.22 million
