Orelvis Martinez will play shortstop and third base in 2022

A little break from the labor dispute discussions to discuss a Blue Jays prospect: Orelvis Martinez.

According to MLB Pipeline, Martinez is the second prospect for the Jays, right after Gabriel Moreno. The 20-year-old shortstop has spent the past season in the A and high A, finishing the season in Vancouver. In total, he appeared in 98 games, hit 103 hits, hit 28 home runs for a .279 batting average.

Martinez emerging as Blue Jays’ next big prospect

DUNEDIN, Fla. — Blue Jays fans have been spoiled with top prospects lately. From the Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hype train to Bo Bichette, Nate Pearson and new No. 1 prospect Gabriel Moreno, there’s been a “next big thing” for years now, and No 2 prospect (per MLB Pipeline) Orelvis Martinez

At six-foot-one, Martinez is capable of punching, but he often gets pulled out on strikes. The more the season progressed, the less he was withdrawn on catches. According to the player, it is the experience that makes the big difference.

The more he plays, the more he gains confidence in his abilities.

Strong at bat, he must continue to work on his defensive game. This year, he should split his time between shortstop and third base. Martinez wants to keep working hard on his defense.

The 2022 season will be important for Martinez, and if all goes well, it’s not impossible to see him climb the ranks and see him play in the AA.

The Blue Jays seem to be the reference in international recruitment. The team’s two best hopes come from international recruitment (Moreno – Venezuela; Martinez – Dominican Republic).

International recruitment: the Blue Jays would be the reference

The Latin branch of the Blue Jays is reminiscent of that of the Expos of the time.
