A little break from the labor dispute discussions to discuss a Blue Jays prospect: Orelvis Martinez.
According to MLB Pipeline, Martinez is the second prospect for the Jays, right after Gabriel Moreno. The 20-year-old shortstop has spent the past season in the A and high A, finishing the season in Vancouver. In total, he appeared in 98 games, hit 103 hits, hit 28 home runs for a .279 batting average.

At six-foot-one, Martinez is capable of punching, but he often gets pulled out on strikes. The more the season progressed, the less he was withdrawn on catches. According to the player, it is the experience that makes the big difference.

Strong at bat, he must continue to work on his defensive game. This year, he should split his time between shortstop and third base. Martinez wants to keep working hard on his defense.
The 2022 season will be important for Martinez, and if all goes well, it’s not impossible to see him climb the ranks and see him play in the AA.
The Blue Jays seem to be the reference in international recruitment. The team’s two best hopes come from international recruitment (Moreno – Venezuela; Martinez – Dominican Republic).
