In his sixth season in Houston, Eric Gordon has seen just about everything. And after having taken on the costume of “role player” alongside the various superstars who have passed through Texas, he is almost on the front line in a young workforce which devotes its season to the development of players with high potential.
His strength is to have continually been able to adapt to the various challenges that have been proposed to him, and to have always found a way to bring to his team when injuries left him alone. At just 33 years old, Eric Gordon averages 15 points and 3.3 assists in 29 minutes, with a percentage behind the arc that would make the biggest triggers in the league green: 45.5% skill in 5.3 attempts per game .
“I feel really good this year”, did he declare. “I want to keep playing and acting that way. Stay healthy and be on the pitch as much as possible. Throughout my career, my roles have constantly changed, whether coming off the bench or as a starter. With me, I feel like I can adapt to all my teammates thanks to my style of play. It’s good to come back, and I had to work very hard this summer to try to avoid injuries while throughout the season and be ready to have a good season like the one I am having this year”.
Focused on his role in the Rockets draft
With the approach of the “trade deadline”, Eric Gordon acts as the ideal candidate to fuel the rumours: an experienced player, endowed with a good basketball IQ and above all who brings this much sought-after external threat. Again in full possession of his means, he even sees himself continuing to play for several more years.
“I can go on like this, I feel like I can play like this for another 4-5 years. Whatever happens, I’m ready. I prepared myself to be able to deal with everything and play as well as possible.
But the former world champion is also used to being part of negotiations between franchises and we can count on him not to be destabilized in the weeks to come.
“I don’t even think about it and I don’t worry about it. These are things that happen. Whether you get traded or not, you have to keep playing basketball. Fortunately, I’ve been here for almost six years now, and it’s going really well. I know the situation I find myself in. I just continue to play my game and look forward to continuing to grow within this group,” he added. “I’ve already been traded even though it’s been a while. It’s part of the business. I focus on basketball, I don’t worry about the rest.
